Long Term Garden Team Coordinator

The garden team is one small component of a Community Guild (PTA) with limited financial resources serving a Title I Public Waldorf ek-8 school in a severely underfunded school district. Beyond early implementation, substantial improvements are needed to the school grounds and the outdoor education areas supported by the garden team. Even at present day, there is enough work and a real need for a half to full time garden coordinator to really make the curriculum blossom. Beyond that, all of the school’s specialty programs and clubs suffer from a major lack of funding. The school district is unable to fund fundamental positions such as a librarian and foreign language instructors. The needs extend even beyond those.

“Watching our students studying in the garden is a daily occurrence. It is this constant connection to nature, the ever-

changing seasons, and how the growing of food deeply impacts and enriches our lives that is being experienced through

their small hands digging in the dirt. ”
